You are a dot in a circle, President Buhari says as he mocks IPOB

President Muhammadu Buhari on Thursday mocked the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB,  and described it as an encircled dot going nowhere.

IPOB is a separatist organisation agitating for the emergence of Biafra out of Nigeria, following years of alleged marginalisation.

However, Buhari, who has been in the eye of the storm following his threat to treat the group ‘in a language they understand’ deride the pro-Biafra group in an interview with Arise TV, stating: declaring: “That IPOB is just like a dot in a circle. Even if they want to exit, they will have no access to anywhere.

“And the way they are spread all over the country, having businesses and properties, I don’t think IPOB knows what they are talking about.”

The president reiterated his threat, which many interpret as genocidal, saying:“In any case, we say we’ll talk to them in the language that they understand. We’ll organise the police and the military to pursue them.”

Buhari’s alleged genocidal threat had set the country on a collision path with the microblogging site, Twitter, which deleted the post resulting in its ban by the Federal Government.

The president added, however, that he was relieved by assurances that  the region would not be seceding.

He said:“I was encouraged by what I heard, nobody told me. Two statements from the south-south. One by the elderly people, they said this time around there would be no (secession). And again the youth made the same statement; such encouragement.”
