Whether or not Yahaya Bello will continue in office as governor of Kogi State shall be decided on August 31 when the Supreme Court delivers judgement in the appeal, challenging his election by the gubernatorial candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Musa Wada, and his party.
Bello, candidate of the All Progressive Congress (APC), was on November 16, last year declared winner of the governorship poll in the state, an outcome Wada and PDP rejected.
Having failed to upturn Bello’s election at both the Kogi State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal and the Court of Appeal, Wada asked the apex court to set aside the judgments of the tribunal and court of appeal.
A seven-member panel of justices of the Supreme Court, headed by the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Ibrahim Tanko Muhammad on Tuesday slated judgement on the matter for August 31 after the feuding parties had adopted their written briefs.
