Ahead of the 2019 World Health Day slated for April 7, the Lagos State Ministry of Health says it will commemorate it with a sensitisation walk, health summit, medical screening and community clean up exercise.
The ministry’s Director of Disease Control, Dr Eniola Erinosho, said on Thursday in Lagos State that the aim was to create awareness and improve the understanding of the 2019 theme: “Universal Health Coverage: Everyone, Everywhere”.
The World Health Day is a global health awareness day celebrated every year on April 7, under the sponsorship of the World Health Organisation, as well as other related organisations.
In 1948, the WHO held the First World Health Assembly.
According to Erinosho, the awareness will spur actions from individuals, policy-makers and healthcare workers to make universal health care a reality for everyone.
“The sensitisation walk, health summit/symposium and medical screening exercise will hold on April 12, 2019.

“The community sensitisation and clean up tagged: “Team Up to Clean Up“ will hold on Saturday, April 13 at Surulere Local Government, “ he said.
Erinosho said that the clean up was in collaboration with the Multipro Enterprise Limited (MPEL), makers of Hypo bleach, a detergent.
“The aim of the clean up is to emphasise the importance of a clean neighbourhood in disease prevention and control.
“Also, the aim is to stress the importance of everyone, everywhere coming together to raise the standards of health and hygiene around us.
“The rationale for this campaign is working with the understanding that when it comes to hygiene and cleanliness, it is our own responsibility.
“When one person takes the lead, others will imbibe same and act accordingly, “ he said. (NAN)
