The Lagos State Government has sought the partnership of other states of the federation in food production to address the challenges of food scarcity so as to provide food security for people of the state and Nigerians in general.
According to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu who was the Special Guest of Honour at the Grand Finale of the Year 2023 World Food Day Celebrations, themed: “Water is Life, Water is Food, Leave No One Behind,” held at the Police College Parade, Ikeja, on Monday, there is need for farmers in Lagos to collaborate with their colleagues in other states to enable them bring their produce to Lagos as it has the highest population of citizens.

He promised the state government’s commitment to support the farmers to ensure that food is affordable and accessible to the residents,
Sanwo-Olu added that the World Food Day was held to encourage all the farmers in the state, adding that farming is important to his administration.
The governor said his administration is building the largest food logistics hub in West Africa and that the phase one of the project would be commissioned next year so as to ensure food sufficiency and security in Lagos
He said the government had achieved a lot through the APPEALS Project, restating his administration’s commitment to the theme of this year’s festival.
“We know that the price of food appears to have gone up, but with interventions like these such as bringing the market close to the consumers, I am sure that all the produce brought here today will be picked up and bought.
He urged the state Ministry of Agriculture and all officers, extension workers and project managers to continue to encourage farmers, especially in the acqua-culture farming piggery, fishing, poultry, and other areas where they can excel.
