National President of Standup for Women Society (SWS), Mrs. Deborah A. Ijadele-Adetona, has on behalf of her group congratulated Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala on her appointment as the first female Director-General of the World Trade Organisation (WTO).
Attaining the position as the first black person and African Woman, according to her, has distinguished her as a woman of substance with impeccable qualities and a pride to womanhood.
“SWS wishes to commend the stewardship of President Muhammad BUHARI and other stakeholders who deemed her fit to coordinate the affairs of the distinguished Organisation and their names, in history will be written in gold.
“As SWS continues to wish the former Finance Minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria success in her new post, we stress the need for our able scribe to champion the course of women, children and other vulnerable groups in order to enshrine inclusiveness and ensure sustainable development.”
The association, the President said, is satisfied that Dr. Okonjo-Iweala has broken the glass ceiling and interrupted the age long history of over 70 years by becoming the first woman, African and black person to head the prestigious organization, a novel history the world and Africa will cherish for many generations to come.
Furthermore, the group called on all women to emulate the shinning example of the Pride of Africa, saying, there is the need for Women to put in their very best in attaining epitome in their various fields of endeavors.
