The shocking motive behind the crime is that Gorondo supposedly prevented Surajo from committing suicide.
During a media briefing at the state’s Police headquarters, Surajo recounted the events leading to the deadly altercation. She explained, “I killed him because he prevented me from killing myself. While he attempted to snatch the knife from my hand, a quarrel ensued between us.”
Surajo went on to describe how, during the altercation, she got a cut on her hand, and blood started gushing out.
She continued, “He asked me to go in and change. It was when I went in to change and was coming out that I saw him lying down, saying he was not feeling fine and was on medication. I saw the knife by his side, and I seized the opportunity to pick up the knife and stabbed him severally.”
The Commissioner of Police, Mohammed Usaini Gumel, revealed that Hafusat’s husband, Dayyabu Abdullahi, and their security guard, Mallam Adam, have also been arrested for allegedly concealing the body of the deceased.
The incident came to light when a report was received about the discovery of Nafiu Hafiz’s lifeless body with multiple injuries.
Further investigation led to the arrest of Hafusat Surajo, who confessed to committing the act. The tragic incident sheds light on the complexities of mental health and the need for support in such distressing situations.
On December 21, 2023, around 7:00 AM, a report came in from Hafizu Salisu in Bauchi Metropolis. He received a call from Dayyabu Abdullahi in Unguwa Uku Quarters Kano, stating that his brother, Nafi’u Hafiz, aged 38, had passed away. They arrived at the residence and found several injuries on the body, suspected to be knife stabs.
The motionless body was taken to Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital, where a doctor confirmed the death. (The Guardian)
