A woman and her two children were burnt to death when the 18-seater commercial bus they were traveling in exploded in a road accident on the Abuja-Lokoja road.
The accident occurred at Manderegi village, near Abaji, along the Abuja-Lokoja highway.
According to witnesses, the bus with registration number BGT 996 LG was on its way to Kogi State when it suddenly caught fire burning the woman and her children and injuring 12 other passengers who sustained various degrees of burns.
The woman and her children were reportedly trapped resulting in being burnt beyond recognition.
The FCT Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, Muta’ah Chorrie, said the corpses have been deposited at the mortuary while the injured were taken to hospital in Abaji.
He added that the explosion was aided by the presence of a jerrican loaded with fuel which the driver put in the bus alongside passengers.
“Let me tell you, this is what we have been saying that there is danger in carrying extra fuel with passengers while traveling. We have been sensitizing motorists on this but some defiant drivers still carry them,” he said.
