Why Yahaya Bello remains a wanted man–EFCC

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has explained why it still declared former Kogi State governor, Yahaya Bello despite claims he turned himself in to the commission on Wednesday.

According to a source in EFCC, Yahaya Bello reported to the commission’s office in convoy with the incumbent Kogi State governor, Ododo but was turned back by the commission.

The source said Ododo was not invited and wondered why he accompanied Yahaya Bello to report to the commission’s office

The Chairman of the commission reportedly instructed none of the staff to attend to him because Bello reportedly did not sign some documents when he arrived because he was with a sitting governor who enjoys immunity.

‘’Upon realising that Bello came with the governor and some dignitaries, the Executive Chairman directed that no official should attend to him. His manner of coming to EFCC was a breach of our protocol. No Nigerian, no matter how highly placed, is expected to come for an invitation in a convoy of vehicles and with a sitting governor,” the source said

The source further said the commission frowns at the involvement of Governor Ododo in the face off between Yahaya Bello and the EFCC , saying the governor was not expected to follow him to its office.

“We have not been comfortable with the roles of the governor in this case. After fulfilling all procedures of documentation, Bello was expected to come with his lawyer(s) and not a governor or Politically Exposed Persons (PEPs).

We cannot be intimidated or subject our system to political pollution. This made the Executive Chairman of EFCC to direct that no official should attend to Bello. He must undergo due process like every invitee,” the source added.
