Why we’re not paying N35,000 minimum wage arrears – FG

The Federal Government has explained that it’s finding it difficult to pay the stated N35,000 wage arrears to government workers due to revenue shortfall.

Oluwatoyin Madein, the Accountant-General of the Federation, AGF, who disclosed on Wednesday in Abuja, insisted that the Federal Government was committed to paying the arrears, adding that adequate revenue was being mobilised to meet its commitment not only to workers but also to all Nigerians.

The AGF said: “The N35,000 wage award is to go on for six months, until a new national minimum wage is agreed, and the government is committed to meeting that obligation.

“But the limited nature of government revenue and contending issues requiring attention caused some delay. We can not leave monthly salaries and prioritise the wage award.”

She promised that these commitments would be met as government revenue continues to improve.
