Why we killed 16 soldiers in Delta community – Fleeing suspect

A video has surfaced online, showing a young man, who claimed responsibility for the killing of 16 soldiers in the Okwuma community of Delta State.

 

 

 

 

The soldiers were reportedly on a peace mission due to a communal clash between Okuama and Okoloba communities in Bomadi and Ughelli South Local Government Area.

 

 

 

 

 

However, the man who didn’t identify himself said contrary to reports, the soldiers were not on a peace mission but came to arrest some community leaders before they met their end.

He blamed the government for failing to call the leaders of both Okuama and Okoloba communities for a peaceful resolution.

 

 

 

 

In the video, the man traced the conflict to a land dispute and faulted the government and community leaders for their failure to facilitate a peaceful resolution.

 

 

 

 

He accused the government of planning oil bunkering activities, implicating some community members and soldiers in the process.

 

 

 

 

“This is the last video I will make over the fight between Okuama community and Okoloba community,” the man stated.

“The Ijaw people from Okuama community used army to carry three people from Okoloba community and killed them. The three people were all slaughtered,” he continued.

 

 

 

 

“The Federal Government gave some people power to do [oil] bunkering and after doing the bunkering, the army followed and guide them to sell the product. They betrayed their brothers and their own blood,” he further alleged.

 

 

 

 

According to the man, the soldiers were involved in the abduction and killing of three individuals from his community, which fueled the retaliation against the soldiers.

 

 

 

 

He expressed sorrow over the loss of lives on both sides and claimed personal losses, including the death of his father, a retired army officer, and six community members.
The man concluded the video by acknowledging the risk of being declared wanted by the government for his statements.
