The Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) has given reasons why it annulled the Rivers FA election in which incumbent chairman, Barrister Chris Green was “returned”.
A board member of the soccer federation, Emma Iba told The Nigerian Xpress Sports today that the election did not meet the guidelines set out by the NFF.
Iba who is the coordinator of the South South zone noted that the NFF had earlier written the Rivers FA directing it to postpone the election.
“I m the coordinator of the South South zone and I m aware that the Rivers FA election was flawed. It was not conducted in line with the statutes of association football and Rivers FA can not but do things the way other states are doing it and respect the guidelines,” Iba said.
The NFF we further gathered has already written officially to the secretary of Rivers FA communicating the decision to annul the election.
The letter which was signed by Onoja Joshua stated in part…unfortunately, the Nigeria Football Federation is unable at this time to recognize the said election for various reasons, but suffice it to say that the said elections were held in flagrant disregard of the directives of the NFF as contained in its letter of 31st May, 2019…While you await further directives, please note that the NFF does not in any wise recognize the alleged Rivers State Football Association election of 18th June, 2019 and deems its conduct and outcome as null and void.”
