A commercial motorcyclist known as Okada has told the police why he raped a female passenger he carried on October 17 inside his wife’s shop.
The suspect identified as Kazeem told the police in Ibadan while being paraded that the victim acted as if she needed him for the night.
He told the police that the victim had asked him to help her find a place she could spend the night, having arrived Ibadan from Lagos and not knowing where she could spend the night.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Adewale Osifeso, , the incident happened at about 10:15 p.m..
The PPRO said the lady was picked up by the suspect in the Olorunsogo area and asked to be taken to her destination in the Adeshina area.
“On their way, the suspect diverted to another route which the victim was not familiar with and when she wanted to know where he was taking her to, he told her that he wanted to pick up something from his wife’s shop.
“The suspect ended up taking her to the Ogbere area where his wife’s shop was located. She was forced inside where he had carnal knowledge of her without her consent,” the PPRO said.
He further said that while Kazeem did not deny the allegation, he claimed the lady consented to his actions.
Defending himself, the suspect claimed he thought the lady needed him to sleep with her .
“That night, I was on the expressway, waiting to pick passengers when the lady approached me and said that she just arrived Ibadan from Lagos, but didn’t know the place she was going. I asked her for the area and she told me. I asked her to come along.
“As she sat on the bike, she told me that she was hungry. I gave her money to go and buy food. Thereafter, she told me to help her get a place where she could stay overnight because it was already late and she might not be able to recognize the place she was going to easily.
“From there, I took her to my wife’s shop in the Olorunsogo area and slept with her. When my wife came after I was arrested, she could not say anything. She was just crying.”
The police stated that medical report indicates the victim was raped as there were. bruises around her private part, while a female underwear, a multi-color boxer, and a red pair of trousers were also recovered.
