Why I faked my own kidnap – Classroom teacher confesses

Wonders, they say, shall never end. That aptly describes the case of a classroom teacher, who stage-managed her own kidnap in Ilorin, Kwara State.

The suspect, Medinat Ibrahim, yesterday confessed to faking her own kidnap in order to extort money from her father to enable her to pay off debts she reportedly incurred during the COVID-19 lockdown.

According to the 24-year-old Oyo State native, she conspired with two accomplices, Hammed Lekan and Amudalat Wahab, to extort money from her father whom she accused of neglect since the loss of her mother, adding that her stepmother also maltreated her.

Medinat claimed that salaries at the private school where she teaches were irregular, as the situation that was made worse by the collapse of her business due to the Covid-19 lockdown.

The police spokesman, Ajayi Okasanmi, said in Ilorin while parading the suspects, they would be charged to court for criminal conspiracy and kidnapping.
