Why I consider Peter Obi a missionary, by Bishop Ideator Diocese

The Bishop of Ideator Diocese, Anglican Communion, Rt. Rev. Henry Okeke, has eulogised the Vice Presidential Candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in 2019 general elections, Mr. Peter Obi, for his selfless living, saying he (Obi) loves to associate with and help the poor.

Bishop Okeke, who spoke at the 4th Synod of Ideator Diocese, Anglican Communion, held in Arondizuogu, at the weekend, described Mr. Obi as a ‘missionary out to make people’s lives better’.

Recalling his years as the Bishop of Mbamili, Rev. Okeke said that Mr. Obi, then the Governor of Anambra State, strongly supported his missionary work and helped the poor.

He narrated his experience with him thus,  “Back then when I was the Bishop of Mbamili Diocese, Anglican Communion, in Anambra West, I stood in as guarantor for some farmers who needed loans to invest in their agricultural business.

“Unfortunately, flooding occurred and washed away what these farmers had laboured for.

“Frustration and hopelessness set in and many of the farmers began to run away because they could no longer pay back the loans.

“The banks then came after me who stood in for them. I had no option than to tell Peter Obi my challenges. Without questions, he simply cleared the loans amounting to over N13 million.

“He not only cleared off the loans, he called the farmers back and donated N7 million to them to encourage their agricultural business.

“He gave me N7 million to continue helping the poor and the needy. I don’t consider such a man as mere politician, but a missionary,” Bishop Okeke narrated.

Encouraging Mr. Obi not to relent in doing good, the cleric prayed God to take Obi higher and position him to positively touch more lives.

In his reactions, Mr. Obi appreciated the Bishop, who he said had continued to invest in human development and contribute greatly to a better society. He promised to continue to support the Bishop in his evangelical work.
