Five youngsters in Kwara State whose amorous pleasure has graduated to enforcing authorities on thier female partner to the extent of flogging her at will, are now cooling off at the Federal Correctional Facility (Prison) on the order of a Chief Magistrate Court sitting in Ilorin, the State capital.
Their overzealous and arrant actions went viral in a video on the social media during the week. In the video which they shot while flogging the lady; a girlfriend of one of them on a trump-up charge of having another lover aside one of them that is the lover they know.
They consider the girl’s alleged escapade as an affront and a grievous sin in their own world. To them, It was a brazen cheating on their friend. This was what made them to charge her to their own court, right in the sitting room of their mighty friend, pronounced the poor girl guilty and went ahead to pronounce sentence on her which was a session of merciless flogging on the buttock until she cried loud enough to their satisfaction.

They did not stop at that, they made sure that they sent a message to other girls, who might not see anything wrong in cheating on their lovers. These boys were reported to use the poor girl’s high phone to video record the flogging session and ordered that it be made to go viral on the social media, as their Lordships pleased.
It was on Monday; the 20th day of June, 2022 that this girl; Miss Ayomide Afolayan who lives in Siniga Area of Shao, Moro Local Government Area of Kwara went on an invitation of her boyfriend to his house. Her expctation was not only cut short, but was also smeared with agonies. It was the day she was made to cry her eyes out by fire, by force. It was the day she was taught how not to have lovers the way she wants.
According to the news which went viral and later confirmed by the Kwara State Police Command, Ayomide’s boyfriend; Jimoh Abdulfatai and his four friends; Abdulfatai, Olamide Babatunde, Afeez Ayomide, Agboola Abdulsamad, and Yakubu Mustapha, invited her to their place which to her was to be another day of enjoyment. She must have thought that like never before, she would have the best of time with the manner the invitation came from her lover; Jimoh that day.
Her painful accounts later was that no sooner than she arrived their usual love nest that her lover pounced on her right in his sitting room and ordered her to lie on the sofa that would later serve as the stake where she would be brutally tortured. Jimoh and his friends were said to have gotten the special whip ready for the show. It was said that before she could say Jack Robinson, three of his friends forcefully grabbed her legs and hands. They stretched her and made her to lie on the sofa facing down. That was when Jimoh read the charge to her; that she had been dating another person and also engage in keeping affairs for commercial purposes. After finding her guilty as charged, Jimoh reportedly began to flog Ayomide mercilessly.
In a statement issued by Ajayi Okasanmi, (SP); the Police Public Relations Officer, the five boys had been arrested and charged to court. His statement reads; “The Kwara State Police Command wishes to inform the general public of her swift action in response to a viral video that trended in many social media platforms, blogs and on virtually every lip yesterday, showing a young lady by name Ayomide Afolayan, other details withheld, was seen being horrendously, heartlessly and indecently assaulted by her supposed boyfriend named Jimoh Abdulfatai of Shao in Moro Local Government Area of Kwara State.

“Her hands and legs were tightly held by four other friends of the first suspect named, Olamide Babatunde, Afeez Ayomide, Agboola Abdulsamad and Yakubu Mustapha for severe effect. The Police in Shao got wind of this highly despicable incident which prompted a swoop on the scene; the suspects were rounded up, victim liberated and was taken to hospital for treatment.
“The Commissioner of Police, Cp Tuesday Assayomo psc (+), directed immediate transfer of the matter to the Command’s CID for discreet and timely investigation.
The suspects confessed to the crime, and the reason adduced for their senseless action was a mere suspicion of infidelity on the part of the lady which the lady vehemently denied.
“In spite of the denial, the boyfriend forcefully retrieved the lady’s telephone handset and handed over the phone to one of his friends to start videoing the actions and eventual posting on social media.
Investigations done with, suspects were charged to court and were reminded in custody pending hearing and actual trial of the matter. This will serve as a deterrent to other people having such criminal and appalling tendency in their minds”.
He relayed the message of the Commissioner of Police to the general public who were agitated by the development. He advised parents “on the need to be parents in the real sense of it; parents should monitor their children, know the kind of friends they keep so as to avert this type of ugly incident”.
Already, the five boys had been charged before a Chief Magistrate Court in Ilorin who ordered their remand in Federal Correctional Facility till August 1, 2022. They were slammed with a five count charge.
The charges include assault and torture of Ayomide Afolayan, of Siniga in Shao in Moro Local Government Area of Kwara State on Monday, June 20, 2022; criminal conspiracy, criminal intimidation, and indecent assault contrary to sections 97, 114, 210 and 391 of the Penal Code Law and punishable under the same sections of the law.
Police also charged them of “inflicting physical injury on the person of Ayomide Afolayan, a student of Bartholomeu College of Health Science, Shao well as as inflicting emotional, verbal, and psychological abuse on her, contrary to sections 3 and 13 of the Violence Against Persons (Prohibition) Law 2020 of Kwara state. However, they pleaded not guilty to the charges in court even when Police earlier said the boys had confessed to the commission of the alleged offence.
