Wewe advises people to imbibe habit of regular hand washing

People around the world have been advised to cultivate the habit of regular and effective hand washing to avoid pathogenic organisms that are dangerous to health.

Widows and Orphans Empowerment Organisation (WEWE) made the advice in a one-day sensitisation workshop to mark 2022 celebration of global hand-washing day.

The event, which took place at Abakaliki Local Government Headquarters Council Hall, was supported by USAID/State Accountability, Transparency and Effectiveness (STATE2STATE).

Declaring the workshop open, the State2state Grant Specialist Mrs. Ambassador Perpetual Chukwumezie called stakeholders to participate in promoting regular handwarshing with good water and soap.

Mrs. Chukwumezie emphasized the need for personal and environmental hygiene as the best way to achieving healthy living.

Meanwhile, the resource person and HOD Water and Sanitation Hygiene (WASH) in Ebonyi LGA Mrs. Loveth Nwazunku, who spoke on the theme of the year “Clean Hands a Recipe for Health, Focuses on the links between hand washing and food including food hygiene and nutrition” said that infectious diseases can be transmitted into the body as a result of poor regular hand washing  practices.

Also speaking in the event, the Monitoring and Evaluation Officer, Widows and Orphans Empowerment Organization (WEWE) Mr. Franklin Nebo, reckoned on government at all level to provide water and sanitary facilities in schools and other public institutions or places in order to actualise the objective of regular hand washing campaign.

Mr. Nebo analyzed that critical times for hand washing  include; before eating or feeding a child, before cooking or handling food, after using the toilet or cleaning baby’s bottom, after touching animals, after touching garbage or any surface and after coughing, sneezing or blowing your nose.

The Global Hand Washing Day is celebrated yearly on the 5th of October since 2008
