The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has assured the Labour Party’s legal team of the Commission’s readiness to give the party access to all relevant documents, pertaining to the February 25 predidential election for inspection as directed by the Court of Appeal.
Chairman of the INEC, Professor Mahmood Yakubu, on Monday
met with the 60-man legal team of the Labour Party and its presidential candidate, Peter Obi, at the Commission’s national headquarters in Abuja.
He told the Obi’s legal team the Commission had nothing to hide and promised that it would be transparent to all aggrieved parties.
Yakubu said: “INEC has nothing to hide. Documents available at the headquarters will be given immediately.
“We are meeting with Resident Electoral Commissioners (RECs) today and we will discuss how other documents at the state level could also be made available to you speedily.”
The Court of Appeal had granted Obi and his party access to all the relevant materials used to conduct the disputed presidential election.
The Labour Party and Obi are disputing INEC’s declaration of Asiwaju Bola Tinubu as winner of the election, contending that the electoral body breached its own procedure in the conduct of the election.
