We need palliatives too, s*x workers tell FG, private sectors

S*x workers in the country have appealed to the Federal Government and private sectors to extend palliatives to them in order to enable them contend with the challenges posed by the 14 days lockdown directive of President Muhammadu Buhari.

National coordinator of the Nigeria Sex Workers Association, Amaka Enemo, who stated this, added that its members had been forced to suspend activities, especially in Lagos and Abuja due to the lockdown caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

According to Enemo, her association would accept donations from the government or private sector as it would reduce the impact of the lockdown on members.

“If they are willing to help, we will accept it. It is lockdown. Our business is affected,” she stated.

Speaking on the financial impact of the lockdown on s*x workers, Enemo said it was the same effect artisans were facing, adding that it was better to protect one’s health.

“Of course it is going to affect them financially but sex workers are not the only ones that make money on a daily basis. It is the same for commercial drivers.

“Of course, they might have their savings but that does not mean it will not affect them. It is affecting everybody so s*x workers are not exempted.”
