Governor Babajide Sanwo Olu of Lagos State, on Thursday, assured Lagosians of his administration’s commitment to ensuring safety of passengers on waterways.
He also promised his administration would complete all ongoing construction of jetties across the state.
The governor spoke at the commissioning of newly constructed jetties with waiting shelter and shoreline protection at Ofin community in Ikorodu and Ito-Omu Waterfront, Per.
Governor Sanwo-Olu was represented by the Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Martins Bamgbose.
The governor said the construction of jetties ‘is one of the key components needed for water transportation.

” I want to thank Lagosians for your belief in our government to meet your expectations. The construction of these jetties is in furtherance of our government’s commitment to improve water transportation. I want to assure Lagosians of our commitment to complete all ongoing jetties construction while we also ensure safety of our waterways,” he said.
The Commissioner for Waterfront Infrastructure Development, Arc Kabiru Ahmed Abdullahi, who was represented by Engr. Rafiu Adeyemo, said that out of the nine inherited by Sanwo-Olu’s administration, five have been completed, one was commissioned in 2020, two were commissioned on Wednesday, while Ito-Omu and Ogun jetties were the latest to be commissioned.
He added that the intention of the state government for completing the jetties was to provide easy and safe water transportation of goods and services for Lagosians.
The Commissioner enjoined the people to ‘take ownership of the jetties’ by protecting it.
