President Muhammadu Buhari has received Madagascan drug for treatment of COVID-19 but insisted it must first be subjected to scientific analysis before being administered to Nigerians.
The president played host to President Umaro Sissoco Embalo of Guinea Bissau, who brought samples of the herbal brew during a courtesy visit to Aso Rock Villa, Abuja on Saturday.
In a statement by Garba Shehu, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media & Publicity, Buhari said: “We have our institutions, systems and processes in the country. Any such formulations should be sent to them for verification. I will not put it to use without the endorsement of our institutions.”
President Embalo, who recently won an acrimonious election said he had come to seek Buhari’s advice on his proposal for for a “government of national unity” and fight against corruption in Guinea Bissau.
Embalo said: “Problems of Guinea Bissau are problems of Nigeria. I have come to you as your son. I need your help and assistance to make the people happy. I will not let you down, neither will I put you in any difficult situation.”
The statement, which commended Embalo on his electoral victory, added: “I commend your political dexterity in getting the opposition to join the proposed unity government,” stating that Nigeria was determined to keep West Africa politically stable.
The Nigerian leader promised to support the new government in Guinea Bissau, saying: “I will cooperate and help in every way possible.”
