The University of Ilorin (UNILORIN) has received intervention funds of N954.7million and another N500million respectively, from the Tertiary Education Trust Fund, TETFUND to do eleven specific projects and as well build student hostels.
Also, the Univresity is currently enjoying another N200 million Zonal Interventions to execute any other different projects.
Vice Chancellor of the University, Professor AbdulWahab Olasupo Egbewole made this disclosure in his speech at the first leg of a tripartite Convocation Ceremony of the institution that kicked off at the weekend in the Kwara State capital.
The first leg was for students of the institution who graduated in the 2020/2021 session and ought to have done the convocation last year but for the Covid-19 pandemic outbreak which affected school calendars worldwide.
Egbewole who assumed office earlier in the year told the congregation that the university had recorded landmark achievements of late which centred around research and innovations as its lifeblood producing 4 patents in the 2021/2023 academic session.
It is also currently having a total of 36 patents with the Federal through the National Office of Technology Acquisition and Promotion, (NATOP), Abuja making the University one of the highest contributing institutions to patency in Nigeria.
The number of such patents in various disciplines the Vice Chancellor said, ŕincluded Medical, 5; Agriculture, 5; Engineering, 16; Food, 1; Information Technology, 4; Petrochemical, 3; Defence, 1; and Energy, 1; which are currently being positioned for commercialisation.
The Vice Chancellor commended the achievements of his students by recognising their outstanding talents, dedication and hardwork which he said would serve as a testament to the quality of education and opportunities that the University provides.
“In the spirit of festering an environment of learning, innovation and growth, our students have excelled in a myriad of fields, setting a standard of exellence an commendation”, he added.
Also, Prof. Egbewole said; “I am proud to announce that our university gas achieved remarkable milestones in terms of ranking, both nationally and internationally. This is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our faculties, staff and students.
“In a demonstration of our strong determination of becoming the beamst in Nigeria, our university had moved up the ranking ladder of leading ivory towers in Nigeria and for the 10th consecutive year, we again topped the list of most sought-after University in the country for the 2023 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), he concluded.
Meanwhile, a total number of 23,234 students were graduating in the three convocation ceremonies which covered the 2020/2021 and the 2021/2022 academic sessions tagged the 37th and 38th editions. 14,477 of them were for the 37th Convocation which held on Friday, October 20, 2023.
211 of them had First Class; 4,143 Second Class Upper Division; 6,570 had Second Class Lower Division; 1,742 Third Class and 30 graduated with passes.
For the 38th Convocation ceremony held on Saturday, October 21 and Monday, October 23 consecutively, 239 of them had First Class; 3,406 had Second Class Upper Division; 4,691 had Second Class Lower Division; 961 had Third Class and 21 graduated with passes.
