Former Acting President of the nation’s soccer governing body, NFF, Chief Mike Umeh has tipped the Super Eagles to win the Egypt 2019 Nations Cup.
Umeh who spoke yesterday after Eagles manager, Gernot Rohr released his final squad also commended the Amaju Pinnick led NFF board for doing everything possible to adequately prepare the team ahead of the tournament in spite of all the distractions the board has been facing.
In Umeh’s words: “I think the Eagles are good to go. We have a very young side that can make the country proud in Egypt and the World Cup experience they garnered in Russia would count. The boys are young but they are determined and most of them were in Russia last year, so they are not new to the big stage. On the part of NFF, Pinnick and the board deserve kudos. They have done very well. So many people are working against the board for their selfish reasons, but they have managed to keep the flag flying. You can see that the NFF ensures that our teams get the best of preparation ahead of every competition. This was not the case in the past. I just hope those fighting them would in national interest stop. Nigeria’s interest should come first,” Umeh said.
It would be noted that the Eagles landed yesterday in Ismailia, Egypt where they would face Senegal in their last build up game before action begins in the Nations Cup. The team had before jetting out played out a goalless draw against Zimbabwe at the Stephen Keshi Stadium, Asaba on Saturday.
