Umahi swears-in 13 LG chairs, SAs

…Gov. urges State varsity to downsise staff

Governor David Umahi of Ebonyi State has sworn-in 13 local government chairmen who emerged victorious in last Saturday Councils polls conducted by the State Independent Electoral Commission (EBSIEC).

In a similar vein, Governor Umahi has urged  authorities of the state’s University Abakaliki to downsize its staff strength in view of the dwindling economic realities facing the state.

Speaking while administering the oath of office on the elected chairmen, Governor Umahi, charged them to strive and embark on developmental projects that have positive impact on the citizenry.

Said he, “You should strive and deliver dividends of democracy on the people that elected you, this is very important.”

He congratulated the new Chairmen for their successful election, stressing that they should be good ambassadors of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

In a related development, Governor Umahi has sworn-in three Special Assistants as members of the State Executive Council.

Speaking against the backdrop of the ongoing industrial action embarked upon by the Academic Staff Union of Ebonyi State University(ASUU),  Governor Umahi  urged the authorities to downsize it’s staff strength.

He said that the reduction in staff strength was in view of the economic realities facing the country.

The new Chairmen sworn-in included  Mr. Sunday Nwangele (Abakaliki), Barr. Obigeri Oko Eyum (Afikpo North), Barr. Eni Uduma Chima (Afikpo south), Engr. Ken Eze (Ezza south), Mrs. Nora Alu (Ezza North) and Mrs. Chinyere Nwaogbaga (Ebonyi), respectively.

Others included Chief Steve Orogwu (Ikwo), Mr. Onyebuchi Ogbadu (Ivo), Mr. Sunday Henry Eze (Ishielu), Mr. Clement Odah (Ohaukwu) and Mr. Paul Nwogha (Izzi Chairman), respectively.

It would be recalled that the Chairman of Ebonyi State Independent Electoral Commission (EBSIEC) Barr. Jossy  Eze, had last Sunday, declared 13 Candidates of the PDP as winners of  the Local Government election conducted by the Commission  across the 13 council areas of the state.

A total of 13 political parties fielded candidates during the council elections in the state.
