Umahi distributes 68 Jeeps to Perm, Secs/SAs, Coordinators

…Warns Commissioners against laxity

Governor David Umahi of Ebonyi State has distributed 68 Tucson Jeeps to some members of the State Executive Council comprising Permanent Secretaries, Coordinators and Special Assistants.

Speaking on the occasion of the Commissioning of the vehicles on Tuesday at the Government House Abakaliki, Umahi said that the initiative was to enhance the operations of the appointees.

Umahi said that the government would purchase Prado Jeeps for Commissioners in no distant time.

“The vehicles belong to Government and would be withdrawn from the beneficiaries in the event of their disengagement from service”

“These vehicles are partly  99 .9 percent government and 0.1 percent individual,  when you are leaving government you have to give us the number of months you used it before leaving “

All the old members of the Executive will not get vehicles, but will get car loans, I can not buy vehicles every year, our people are suffering they need attention.

The Governor disclosed that very soon the state government would go into  review of workers salary not minding that the Allocation all over the states were dropping.

He cautioned Commissioners to brighten up and live up to their responsibilities warming ” if Special Assistants are brighter than you, you do not need to occupy the  position. you do not just answer the name and somebody is doing the work,it will not work”

The State Chief Executive appealed to the  leaders to make sacrifices because of the electorate that elected them stressing that the state government would  find a way of cutting down the cost of governance.

” We have to find a way of cutting down the cost of governance. let us reinvigorate ourselves and see how to create wealth”

Earlier in his speech, the Secretary to State Government Dr. Kenneth Ugballa, said that the State Government would purchase more vehicles for other members of the Executive Council who are yet to benefit from the distribution.
The occasion was witnessed by members of the state Executive Council, Members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), members of the State House of Assembly and leaders of Thought in the State.
