Two female adults, on Tuesday, lost their lives following a multiple road accident involving four trucks and a commercial bus around Gbagada area of Lagos State.
The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) confirmed the accident, in a statement, on Wednesday.
According to the agency, a distressed call was received through the toll free line 767/112 around 9:55 p. m. and LASEMA response team and all key primary responders were immediately activated to the scene of incident.
The statement, signed by LASEMA spokesperson, Nosa Okunbor said, “Upon arrival at the scene of incident, it was discovered that a multiple accident involving a tipper truck with registration number LAGOS AKM-741 ZT, another tipper truck with registration number AKM- 322 ZT, a loaded tanker with Registration Number U-779 XZ and a loaded 40ft containerised truck with unknown registration number, crushed into a commercial bus with registration number LAGOS KTU 198 XN, as a result of reckless driving.
“Occupants were trapped inside the bus, causing vehicular obstruction on the main carriage way. However, the bus was extricated open with the aid of the agency’s light rescue equipment, and six adults (three males and three females), and a child were rescued alive with different degree of injuries.
“The rescued were given first aid treatment by the agency’s paramedics and subsequently taken to Gbagada General Hospital by LRU ambulance and Lasambus. Unfortunately two adult female lost their life at the scene of incident. ”
The agency disclosed that the dead victims were bagged by the LRT and handed over to SEHMU at the scene of incident, while the accidented vehicles were recovered off the road and handed over to the police officers from Pedro Division.
As a way to prevent similar occurrence, which is gradually becoming common place, LASEMA recommended that truck drivers ensure they move within the required speed limit when on highway.
The agency also advised that Hi-tech construction company place more visible diversion signage 200 meters before the diversion point along Anthony inward Gbagada.
