Two women identified as Mercy Sampson and Stella Madueke have been arraigned for allegedly kidnapping and selling a three-year-old baby
The defendants were brought before Ikeja Special Offences Court by the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State through the Panti Division on five counts charge of kidnapping and obtaining money by false pretence
The defendants pleaded not guilty to the charges preferred against them. However, the police prosecutor, Joseph Eboseremen, alleged that the defendants kidnapped the baby (name withheld) during a church service at Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries Agege area of the state. They allegedly sold her to one Chikodi in the sum of N650, 000.

The prosecutor further alleged that the defendants fraudulently obtained the sum of N700, 000 from one Magus Nwaigbo on the pretence of adopting a baby from an orphanage.
He said: “On March 24, 2019 at Igando Area of Lagos State, the defendants did obtain the sum of N700, 000 from one Magnus Nwaigbo under the pretence that they had a two-year-old girl from the Holy Infant Orphanage meant for adoption. This was a presentation they knew to be false,”
The prosecutor concluded that the Offences are punishable under Section 2 and 3 of the kidnapping prohibition laws of Lagos State 2017.
Meanwhile, Justice Oluwatoyin Taiwo remanded the defendants in the custody of the Correctional Service and adjourned the matter till March 18, 2020
