Many Nigerians are currently making jest of the Federal Government over its ban on social media site Twitter.
They wondered how the federal government could announce the ban of the social media site and still operate various accounts on the bird app.
Reno Omokri, an aide of former President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan opined that the Federal Government does not have the wherewithal to effect the ban. He therefore asked Twitter’s founder Jack Dorsey to ignore the ban. He added that many members of the administration are still operating the app.
“The suspension of the activities of Twitter in Nigeria by the Muhammadu Buhari administration should be ignored by Jack Dorsey. The Buhari government has no means to effect the suspension, and even members of the administration are still on Twitter” he tweeted
Another user who goes by the name Dr PamPam and @Omo Iya Ologi as his handle asked members of the Buhari’s administration to first deactivate their accounts before Nigerians would take them seriously.
“If they want us to take this Twitter in Nigeria suspension serious, Buhari, Bashir, Femi Adesina, Lai Mohammed and the rest of the gang should first deactivate their account, then we will know that they mean business” he tweeted.
Reality TV star, Tacha labelled the decision to ban Twitter as an action from a confused bunch while wondering how they could announce the ban of Twitter on the same Twitter.
“Confused bunch!! Imagine banning Twitter in Nigeria and still using the same App to let us know! What are the measures to effect this suspension? She asked.
Another user Danny Walter asked what avenue will the Federal Government spread their lies from if Twitter is banned.
“So if they suspend Twitter in Nigeria, where will the Federal Government spread their lies and threats from? He asked.
Recall that Federal Government and microblogging and social networking service, Twitter have been embroiled in a face-off since Twitter deleted a tweet from President Muhammadu Buhari’s official account.
The Federal Government on Friday said it has indefinitely suspended the operations of the site in Nigeria sparking a row.
The indefinite suspension was announced by the Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed in a statement issued by his office in Abuja.
The statement, signed by Ministry spokesperson, Segun Adeyemi, cited the persistent use of the platform for activities that are capable of undermining Nigeria’s corporate existence.
According to the statement, the Minister said the Federal Government has also directed the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) to immediately commence the process of licensing all OTT and social media operations in Nigeria.
It is not yet clear how the suspension will work but the Twitter website was still accessible from Lagos as of Friday afternoon.
