Turn yourselves in, Oyo govt orders organisers of Ibadan carnival

The Oyo State Government has ordered organizers of the carnival that claimed the life of about 30 children in Ibadan, Oyo State, to turn themselves in to avoid the wrath of government.

The order followed a stampede that led to the death of about 30 children, on Wednesday, in Ibadan, Oyo State while attempting to collect palliatives at a private children’s funfair held at Basorun Islamic High School, Ibadan.

The stamped led to the loss of lives while some others were injured and taken to hospital.

Deputy Governor of the state, Barrister Bayo Lawal, while on an assessment visit to the venue of the event, distanced the state government from the disaster while frowning at the arrangement of the event without the involvement of security agencies. He promised that the state government would dig deep into the cause of the incident.

While assuring people of the state that government would do the needful to reduce the harm caused by the incident, the deputy governor, urged parents and custodians of children to avoid embracing events that do not have government support.

The deputy governor who visited Adeoyo state hospital, Ring-road and private hospital where the victims were rushed to were informed by one of the doctors that only four children were brought in dead.

Meanwhile, some of the primary organisers of the event are reported to be in Police custody.
“I want to reassure our people that anyone directly or remotely involved in this disaster will be held accountable,” the deputy governor said, urging the people of the state to remain calm as security agencies investigate the incident.
“Our hearts remain with the families and loved ones impacted by this tragedy. May the souls of the departed rest in peace,” he prayed.
