Trouble as prophetess land in police net over deaths of woman, baby after childbirth

A prophetess in Ondo State, Folashade Adekola, has been arrested by the Ondo State Police Command after a woman, Jumoke Adesuwa, and her newborn died during childbirth at her church in Oke-Aro Akure.

The woman who was in the prophetess church for prayer and delivery of her baby suddenly went into labour.
Attempts by the prophetess to deliver her of the baby resulted in complications which led to her bleeding profusely after delivering the child. The complications reportedly resulted in the death of the newborn immediately after birth.

Suspecting foul play, a brother to the deceased reported the incident to the police leading to the arrest of the prophetess.

Confirming the incident, the Ondo State Police Public Relations Officer, Funmilayo Odunlami, said the prophetess is in police custody for further investigation.

“The case was reported by the deceased’s brother who informed us that his sister died after childbirth in the church. The prophetess is now in custody, and investigations are ongoing,” Odunlami said.

According to a family source, the deceased family received a call from the church informing Adesuwa’s husband that his wife had delivered a baby.

Arriving at the church, the source said the family found Adesuwa in critical condition.

“When we arrived, we were told the baby had died during delivery, but the mother was alive.

“However, we found her lying in a pool of her blood, bleeding profusely. We immediately rushed her to a nearby hospital. “She was rejected by three hospitals due to her severe condition, and tragically, she passed away as the last hospital attempted to revive her.

“When we returned to the church to retrieve the baby’s remains, we found the newborn’s body in a room that was clearly unfit for delivery,” the source said.
