Troops neutralise notorious bandit kingpin in Bauchi

A notorious bandit leader in Bauchi has been eliminated by troops of the 33 Brigade of the Nigerian Army.
The bandits, led by the now slain kingpin, identified simply as Ya’u, has made life unbearable for residents of Ningi Local Government Area of Bauchi State before they met their waterloo in an ambush by the troops in Burra, Ningi, on Friday.

The gang, which was notorious for kidnapping for ransom and violence, was known for deploying deadly weapons in its infamous reign of terror on Burra and nearby communities.

However, troops overpowered the gang and its leader on their way back to their hideout after an operation on the same day they had also reportedly abducted the traditional ruler of Kwajale village in Sumaila LGA, Kano State.

Confirming Ya’u’s death in a statement by Brigadier General Onyema Nwachukwu, Director of Army Public Relations, the Nigerian Army disclosed that the troops acted on reliable intelligence, and ambushed the bandits.

The statement added that one bandit was killed while the rest fled with gunshot wounds.

The troops also recovered some arms and amunition, including an AK-47 rifle, 14 live rounds of 7.62 mm ammunition, a mobile phone, and a fetish amulet from the gangsters.
