Troops decimate ISWAP Caliphate in Borno

Authorities in the army said troops of the 401 Special Forces Brigade in conjunction with 19 Brigade Baga have destroyed the purported ISWAP Caliphate in Borno State.

According to the army, the soldiers while on offensive clearance operations between Cross Kauwa and Gudumbali in Borno State on Tuesday, neutralised terrorists and destroyed the ISWAP stronghold

Additionally, in the early hours of today, troops of 25 Task Force Brigade Damboa, Borno State, destroyed and burnt identified BokoHaram/ISWAP Night Market at Gumsuri.

Channels Television reported that this feat comes a few days after troops of Sector 2 Joint Task Force (JTF) North East (NE) Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK) dealt decisively with Boko Haram (BH) and Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists, who made frantic attempts to infiltrate the ancient town of Biu, Borno State.

The criminal elements met their waterloo, when the gallant troops of 231 Battalion and 331 Artillery Regiment swiftly routed them in a failed incursion at Maina Hari village in Biu on Saturday, January 15, 2022.

Army spokesman, General Onyema Nwachukwu, revealed that in the intense battle, troops unleashed superior firepower on the terrorists, neutralizing five BH/ISWAP terrorists, compelling others to withdraw in disarray.

General Nwachukwu added that the gallant troops also captured from the terrorists, one gun-truck, one Deshka M Anti-Aircraft Gun, one HK 21 Machine Gun, one Rocket Propelled Grenade Bomb, 137 rounds of 12.7mm Anti-Aircraft Rounds amongst others.

The Nigerian Xpress reported that the 34 Artillery Brigade of the Nigerian Army, Obinze, Owerri says all is set for the visit of the Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Lucky Irabor, on Thursday, July 22.

Acting Assistant Director, Army Public Relations of the Brigade, Lt. Babatunde Zubairu, disclosed this in a statement issued to newsmen in Owerri on Wednesday.
