In order to instill discipline and restore sanity on Lagos roads,  the state government, on Wednesday, introduced TMS, a technological-driven device aimed at implementing traffic law compliance, and eradicate violation of traffic rules

According to Commissioner for Transportation in the state, Dr. Frederic Oladeinde, who spoke at a press briefing,  the Traffic Management Solution Device (TMS) was designed to apprehend violators of traffic rules

The handheld device captures  real-time  picture and video evidence of road traffic violations  as they occurred, while it also issues ticket on the spot to an offender.

Oladeinde added the device would help to reduce physical confrontation between offenders and law enforcement agencies.

He further said it would help in ensuring transparency, and gives confidence to offenders that whatever amount fines they pay go directly into the coffers of government, and not into the pocket of an individual or an officer, as it usually happens.

He said in line of the Smart City status of the state, the innovation would align with traffic management structure on traffic law violations and compliance checks.

According to him, it would be a resolution of the perennial traffic gridlock issues caused by traffic violations within the state.

”The innovation will aid the eradication of fine payments controversy between the Traffic Law Enforcement Officers and violators, as only electronic payments guarantee the clearance of a violation from the violators list.

”Offender may choose to visits a Traffic Court and presents the Violation Number for the violation he/she wishes to challenge

”It will help in electronic verification of the authenticity of drivers’ licenses, vehicle Licenses and number plates, which will significantly assist in achieving the goal of clamp down on motorists with fake licenses and number plates,” he said.

The commissioner said that with the use of the TMS device, the need for traffic law enforcement officials to have any contact whatsoever with vehicular offenders on the road would be reduced significantly.

He said that the officials would only face the duty of capturing violations, which would enable efficient and effective traffic management as their primary duty.

Oladeinde said that government’s goal was to modernise operations and simplify enforcement, by eliminating situations that facilitated impediments and caused counterproductive results on the roads.

He said that residents would experience transparency at its peak with the use of the TMS, as it would expose in details the violations, with the provision of video and picture evidence.

According to him, such evidence will aid the resolution process and give specific financially penalties within the ambit of the Law.

”Reports of physical abuse of our traffic management personnel will be eliminated, as there will be no need for face to face resolutions and will create a strong deterrence to traffic offences, which will significantly reduce the traffic situation in the state

”I enjoin the good people of Lagos State to support the initiatives of the Babajide Sanwo-Olu-led Administration, as this is pointer to a better transportation sector, as promised at the beginning of this journey in the Year 2019.

”I enjoin the good people of Lagos State to support the TMS initiative as a better management of Traffic Violations,” he said.
