A chieftain of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), in Ekiti State, Lere Olayinka, has told members of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) masquerading as members of the PDP in the State to be bold and courageous enough to use the identity of their own Party.
Olayinka, who was reacting to a meeting of some SDP members in the State, in which call was made for the suspension of former Governor Ayo Fayose, over his support for the State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji, said “those who ganged up against the PDP during the 2022 governorship election and the 2023 National Assembly elections should stop misleading the public by claiming to be PDP members.”
In a statement, on Thursday, Mr. Olayinka, who was the PDP House of Representatives candidate for Ekiti Central Federal Constituency two in the last National Assembly election, said it was funny that those who did everything against the PDP in 2022 and 2023, have now turned themselves to emergency lovers of the Party.
He said; “Seeing the spokesperson at their meeting, and remembering that he was the spokesperson of SDP during the 2022 gubernatorial election as well as the 2023 general elections, I couldn’t but ask myself, has their journey in the SDP ended? Or is SDP no longer the party to beat as they used to say?”
While describing Mr Fayose as a ‘statesman’, who has the right to support whoever he wished to support, Olayinka said “until PDP as a party begins to have a clear direction, its members will continue to do their own politics as it pleases them.”
“Yesterday, we all saw Daniel Bwala, the Spokesperson of the PDP Presidential Candidate, Atiku Abubakar, was in the Presidential Villa to see President Bola Tinubu. He told the public that he will continue to support the President. Up till now, Atiku has not disowned him.
“Funny enough, a few weeks ago, this same Atiku’s Spokesperson was everywhere, calling for the suspension of some people he said were not loyal to the PDP, just as those SDP members in Ekiti did in that their beer parlor meeting.
“Just like Bwala, we will see some of them coming out to declare support for the same Governor Biodun Oyebanji tomorrow when they see that the political crumbs they were expecting from their impersonation as PDP members did not come,” Olayinka said.
He said further; “The PDP of today is a party that should be going to people’s houses to beg them to return to active participation in the party. It is a party that has lost its political steam and those presently controlling it should begin the shedding of their garments of arrogance so that the party can be prevented from total collapse.”
