Tension as police surround APC HQ in Abuja

The police have deployed their personnel in the headquarters of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the federal capital territory (FCT).

The development sparked tension around the APC national secretariat, recently christened Muhammadu Buhari House.

It is unclear why the police deployed their personnel in the secretariat, but TheCable understands that the law enforcement agency is working on a security report.

The police officers numbering over 25 took strategic positions on Blantyre street, where the party is located at Wuse 2 in the nation’s capital.

Afterwards, the ruling party issued a notice, saying John Akpanudoedehe, national secretary of the caretaker, will explain to journalists why there is a heightened security presence at the secretariat.

“NOTICE: The National Secretary will brief the media on increased security presence at the Party’s National Secretariat. He is on his way to the Secretariat,” the party said in a terse notice.

Since the 4:3 split judgment of the supreme court which affirmed Rotimi Akeredolu as governor of Ondo, there have been concerns about the competence of Mai Mala Buni, Yobe governor, to lead the party.

Party members like Festus Keyamo, minister of state for labour and employment, said Buni and any other officer holding executive positions in government on the caretaker committee should be replaced.

According to him, the apex court queried the legality of Buni to lead the party, nominate candidates for elections and conduct the just-concluded congresses.
