The Federal Government has announced the commencement of the new retirement age and years of service for teachers, which were approved by President Muhammadu Buhari at the 2020 World Teachers Day.
The Federal Executive Council (FEC) also approved the new policies, stipulating 65 years as retirement age and 40 years of service for the teachers.
According to the Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu, who spoke yesterday at the 2020 ministerial briefing in Abuja, the new policies took effect from January 1, 2021.
Before the new policies, teachers in the country retired on the attainment of 60 years after 40 years in service or whichever came first.
