Suspected herdsmen killed 13 women, children in Benue

 

 

 

Thirteen women and children were among people killed when suspected herdsmen attacked Azege settlement, Mbaya, Tombo Ward, in Logo local government area of Benue State.

The community was attacked on Sunday, November 24, 2024 at 7am leading to the death of residents as well as the destruction of their farmlands and crops by the arsonists.

According to Hon. Benjamin Uzenda, who was the immediate past Caretaker Chairman of the local government, the herdsmen has, in the last two months attempted to attack the community but were not successful until the latest incident.

He said residents were preparing to attend church service in the morning when the attacked stormed the area and went from house to house opening fire on the residents.

“They were armed with sophisticated weapons, and immediately opened fire on residents who were preparing to attend morning church service.
“It looks like coordinated planned attacks as they opened fire on the harmless villages, butchered some bodies after shooting them and gunned down women and children.The Invaders operated from houses and fled before security personnel arrived at the scene of the incident,” he said.

Uzenda said remaining residents have abandoned their homes and ran away, adding that the injured were taken to Ayilamo PHC,
