Supplementary elections: FOMWAN calls for patience, understanding among Plateau residents

The Federation of Muslim Women Association of Nigeria (FOMWAN) in Plateau has called for patience and understanding among residents ahead of the rescheduled March 9, Governorship and House of Assembly elections in the state.

Leader of FOMWAN in Plateau Mrs  Muhibba Abdulrazak gave the advice in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Jos on Thursday.

NAN reports that INEC has set March 23 as the date for supplementary elections in six states of Adamawa, Bauchi, Benue, Kano, Plateau, and Sokoto, where the March 9 Governorship/State Assembly elections were declared inconclusive.

The FOMWAN leader, therefore, urged the people of Plateau to shun any act that could jeopardise the successful conduct of the supplementary elections.

She described the 2019 general elections as one of the most peaceful elections that had been held in Plateau.

She attributed the peaceful conduct of the polls to the concerted efforts made by faith-based organisations, community leaders and youth organisations to sensitise the people to the dangers of violence.

“FOMWAN before the conduct of the elections organised an interface with 100 Christians and 100 Muslims across the 17 local government areas of the state to create awareness among adherents of the two major religions on the need for peaceful elections.

“The meeting was supported by an organisation `Reclaim Naija’; we are happy that this is the first time Plateau has experienced violence-free elections,” she said.

Abdulrazak called for tolerance among the different ethno-religious groups in the state.

According to her, peace is critical to sustained development in any society.

The FOMWAN official, who prayed for the emergence of a God-fearing leader from the governorship race in the state, appealed to residents to accept the result of the supplementary elections as the will of God for Plateau. (NAN)
