Summer Holidays: Proprietor urges parents to secure children

Rev. Sam Alamode, Proprietor, Sophem Schools, Abesanin Ipaja, Lagos, on Friday urged parents to be wary of places they send their children to or the visitors they would receive in their homes during the summer holidays.

Alamode gave the advice at the School’s 2019 Graduation and Prize Giving Award.

He said this was necessary, following the trend of sexual abuse and rape bedevilling the society.

“Please monitor your children and do not leave them alone in the house during the holidays.

“Create time to take care of your children, especially the girls and do not allow anyone to abuse them.

“Once the summer lesson begins, send them back to school for summer coaching and to also ensure their safety,” he said.

According to him, parents and guardians should also teach the children sex education and let them know all they need to know about abuse.

The proprietor also warned parents be wary of the visitors or family members that may want to visit them during the holidays.

He said this was because some of these visitors were already ill exposed and might be a negative influence on their children.

“Be careful of the visitors you will accept to visit to spend the holidays with you, as some of them were already corrupt and might influence your children negatively, especially when you are not around.

“Be wary also of where you send your children to for the holidays, some families do not have moral values,’’ he said.

Alamode, however, appreciated the parents, teachers and executive members of the school’s Parents Teachers Association for keeping faith with the school and for ensuring a smooth academic session.

“Thank you for criticising us when you see gaps and proffering solutions to make us better.

“Please continue to tell us things we are doing that are not right, we will endeavour to make it right, but whatever you see that we are doing right, don’t hesitate to announce it to the world,’’ he said.

The proprietor, however, promised that the school would continue to offer quality education to its students and ensure that they are academically independent and stand out globally. (NAN)
