The Sultan of Sokoto and spiritual leader of Muslims in Nigeria, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III, has directed Muslims in the country to start looking for new moon.
He gave the direction, on Friday, the 23th of December 2022, equivalent to Islamic calendar 29th of JUMADA ULA 1444 after Hijira.

In a statement by Chairman of Advisory Committee on Religious Affairs, Sultanate Council, Sokoto State, Prof. Sambo Junaidu, the Sultan directed Muslims in the country to start looking for the new crescent of Jumada Assani from Friday, December 23 December, 2022.
The statement said, “Anybody that sighs the new moon should forward the information to the nearest village or district head for onward communication to the Sultan of Sokoto.”
