Governor Dave Umahi of Ebonyi State has declared that although it had its own limitations, State Police is capable of addressing the country’s multifarious security challenges.
Consequently, Governor Umahi tasked lawmakers on the need to amend Nigeria’s Constitution to make provision for state police.
He noted that various states have peculiar security challenges that would be better handled by state police.

According him, governors in the South East are handling the issue carefully in order to avoid unnecessary suspicion or misunderstanding.
The governor said, “I have not seen any governor that comes to speak about State Police. Every solution creates its own problems.
“You cannot totally say that state police is going to be the answer to all our insecurity, it has its own problems, but I think that is what our people need.”
