The Ministry of Sports and Youth Development has promised to give more support to the Amputee national team to enable it win laurels for the country.
This was disclosed by the Lagos Liaison Officer of the Ministry, Bode Durotoye, when he received the team on behalf of the Sports Minister, Sunday Dare, after they arrived from the Amputee Nations Cup held in Angola.
He expressed happiness that the team for the first time in seventeen years won silver medal in the competition, saying that with proper planning, they can win the next edition in Morocco in January, 2020.

“I’m happy that the team went to Angola as good ambassadors of the country and came back with the silver medal.
“ When the team was going to the Southern African country, I promised you that Nigerians are solidly behind you and everybody is happy that you did not come back empty handed and the Ministry will continue to support the team to enable it conquer Africa in the next edition in Morocco,” he said.
In his remarks, President of Amputee Football Federation Sulieman Isah said the championship was an eye opener as the experience garnered will be of immense help further development of the game in the country.
According to him, winning silver was a great achievement because Nigeria lost to the World champions and there are other countries that did not win a single game in the tournament.
“ I’m happy with the result because we played against the World champions who had the support of their home fans and our players really did their best and we even defeated the defending champion, Liberia in our opening game.”
