A prominent businessman who was kidnapped and recently released after ransom was paid, has revealed that some commercial drivers are working with kidnappers in their evil deeds on Abuja-Kaduna road.
The man who never wanted his name mentioned for security reasons but prefer to be referred to as Frank, revealed that he was kidnapped while traveling from Abuja to Kaduna in early August this year. He explained that they were on the road for about an hour before their vehicle, a golf 3 station wagon came to a halt with the driver pretending to have engine problem when some men dressed in military camouflage accosted them and took them to the forest.

The man narrated that upon getting to the forest, he saw others victims some talking to their relations on telephone on the order of the kidnappers for ransom to be paid. He explained that he became a victim because he was called upon to urgently return to Kaduna because his wife was in labour and he board the next available vehicle unknown to him that the driver was kidnappers’ partner in crime. He further explained that one of them that wanted to be heady, was shot in the leg to show others the level of seriousness of the unwanted operators.
The kidnappers’ victim recalled that a family of three returning from the East held in the kidnappers’ den for days before they were taken was being given two days to pay up or face the music. He added that on hearing that, he pleaded with them to allow him talk with his sister who is also into buying and selling. After much negotiations, the sister with other family members have to cough out five million naira (N5,000,000) before he was taken to the forest on Abuja road, at Jaji a suburban on Kaduna for his release, he added. He said that the experience is not what one could wish an enemy.
