Sokoto govt. assures enhanced welfare for NYSC members

Governor Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto state on Wednesday, assured increased commitment to enhance welfare of National Youth Service Corp (NYSC) members.

Tambuwal stated this when members of NYSC National Governing Board, led by the Chairperson, Amb. Fatima Balla-Abubakar, visited him on Wednesday in Sokoto State.

The governor, who assured that host communities, would continue to be good to youths corps members deployed to them, however, urged the NYSC members to initiate viable community projects.

Tambuwal,who noted that relationship between Sokoto state government and NYSC had always been robust and wonderful, commended the state NYSC management for its strides.

He said that state government would continue to do whatever possible to support the scheme in the state.

“Sokoto state government has been commended for its sustained support to the youth corps members deployed to the state.

“We will continue to live up the expectation by proving necessary supports to ensure the success of the scheme in recognition of its contribution to national integration” Tambuwal said.

Earlier, Balla-Abubakar commended the state government for its support to corps members and NYSC as a scheme.

She described Sokoto as a unique state, in terms of taking adequate care of youth corps members and thanked Tambuwal for increasing their allowance and ensuring its prompt payment.

The chairperson also expressed gratitude to the state government for the prompt renovation of female hostel razed by fire at the NYSC permanent orientation camp Wamakko.

, Balla-Abubakar, however, appealed to the state government to expand the lecture hall at the orientation camp and assist in repairing damaged roofs at the NYSC orientation camp in Wamakko.

She further urged state government to complete camp’s fence, upgrade its clinic and provide Hilux vehicle to the secretariat.

She also pleaded with the state government to consider providing the state NYSC Coordinator with a befitting accommodation in recognition of government efforts on housing policy.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Balla-Abubakar inspected Wamakko orientation camp and commended the officials for sustaining the quality and management of the camp.

She expressed satisfaction on clean environment, hostel and kitchen conditions as well as corps members’ activities

The chairperson said the inspection was part of board’s efforts to obtain direct information and interact with corps members and officials for improved services.

The State Coordinator of NYSC, Mr. Philip Enaberue, said 2, 066 corps members were undergoing orientation camp in the state.

Other board members on the courtesy visit were: Hajia Binta Mu’azu, Mr. Dayo Ajibola, Prof. Joseph Ahaneku and Dr. Muhammad Yinusa. (NAN)
