Sokoto govt. approves N4.6b for schools, roads construction

The Sokoto State Executive Council has approved the sum of N4.6 billion for the construction of two schools and a stretch of road.

The state’s Commissioner for Information, Alhaji Isa Bajini Galadanci stated this Friday while briefing newsmen after the state executive council meeting held at Government House, Sokoto.

A breakdown of the approved sum indicates that the construction of new Abdullahi Barau Government Secondary School, Dogon Daji and a new Government Girls Science Academy, Kasarawa will gulp over N2 billon naira over N2.4 billion respectively.

The remaining sum of N212 million was approved for the construction of an 8.7 km road project from Kwanar Kimba-Zamau in Dange Shuni and Kware local governments areas of the state.

According to Bajini, 15 junior secondary schools have been selected to serve as feeder to the new secondary school at Kasarawa, which is also expected, on completion, to be a special science and technology hub for girls in the state.

The commissioner added that the council also approved the draft bill for the establishment Sokoto Malaria Elimination Agency, which bill will be sent to the state House of Assembly for consideration.

The briefing was attended by the Commissioners for Finance, Basic and Secondary Education, Rural Development
Health and Justice respectively.
