The resignation of Peter Obi from the Peoples Democratic Party has been received with mixed reactions with some saying he should have stayed to slug it out with the party heavyweights of Atiku Abubakar, Nyesome Wike, Aminu Tambuwal amongst others, while many say his move was tactical and deft as he may have read the writing on the wall.
Speculations are rife as to the next move of the former Anambra State governor, whom many said stands no chance against money bags in PDP, who have been crisscrossing the states wooing party delegates with huge sums of money.
However, several Nigerians have said Obi’s support base is not party-inclined but on the streets where common Nigerians are firmly rooting for him. They have promised to follow him to any party of his choice.
Social media is awash with supporters of Obi who believed he did the right thing by withdrawing from race under PDP saying his leaning the PDP will affect their support for him.
“In 2023, I won’t reinforce failure in any party.
I will vote for a candidate, not for a party. I will vote for Peter Obi.
Please say the same and retweet. We are tired. Enough is enough,” Everest a social media user said.
Dami Adenuga said irrespective of any party, if Peter’s name should appear in any ballot box under any party, he will vote the ex-Anambra state helmsman.
“Let me check something, if Peter Obi appears on the INEC Presidential Candidate Ballot Paper in 2023, under any party aside the PDP and APC, like this tweet if you’ll still vote for him,” Adenuga said.
In a report by TheNiche, Obi left before the party primary as the new electoral act will prevent him from switching parties should he remain in PDP after the primaries are concluded.
According to the report, the discussions started when it became apparent that the PDP was not prepared to zone the presidential ticket to the South and hence will leave Obi in the lurch.
