Ogun State Government says it is committed to making life more meaningful for youths and women through skills acquisition, in order for them to be independent and in turn be employers of labour.
The State Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Hon. Oluwafunmilayo Efuwape, made this known in Abeokuta, at the matriculation ceremony of 150 Trainees of the 2019/2020 set of Women Development Training Centre, Oke- Ilewo, Abeokuta.
Hon. Efuwape, who was represented by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Women Affairs, Hon. Adijat Adeleye-Oladapo, said, “this scheme is aimed at making life better for the entire citizenry by making them to be self-reliant and self-sufficient through learning and mastering of a particular skill, which invariably enhances their socio economic status”.

She noted that, empowerment of the women folks was one of the responsibilities of the Ministry, saying vocational skill acquisition was also one of the laudable employment schemes used to combat the menace of adolescent within the reproductive age, particularly, those out of school and those seeking admission.
Earlier in her welcome address, the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Dr. Oluranti Oladeinde, said State government through the programme would continue to develop indigenous human resources and reduce the number of unemployed youths and women through vocational training.
Oladeinde charged the trainees to be determined and focused, saying, “you need to continually remember that your stay here is short and you have to use the advantage to come out best. Attend classes regularly and punctually, shun deviant behaviour and be modest in your dressing”.
Speaking on behalf of the trainees, Mrs. Bukola Sanya and Oluwaseun Yusuf of the catering and makeup department respectively, appreciated the State government and the Ministry of Women Affairs, for giving them the privilege, promising to make judicious use of the opportunity.
