Sit-at-home order: Senate asks FG to extradite Simon Ekpa

The Senate, on Wednesday, expressed its disapproval of the Monday sit-at-home protest in the South East geopolitical zone.
The Red Chamber thereby called on the Federal Government to work with the Finnish Government to extradite Simon Ekpa, a pro-Biafran agitator, for prosecution.
The Senate also decided to summon the Minister of Foreign Affairs (once appointed) and relevant stakeholders to conduct a thorough investigation and apprehend other sponsors involved in the illegal sit-at-home order.

The sit-at-home protest, enforced by a faction of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) in Anambra, Enugu, Imo, Abia, and Ebonyi states, began in 2021 to demand the release of IPOB leader Nnamdi Kanu, who is currently detained by the Department of State Services (DSS) and facing terrorism-related charges.
Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State had previously estimated that the sit-at-home protest was causing a loss of over N10 billion to the state’s economy every Monday.
