Shun ethnic consideration for tourism to thrive, expert advises FG

A tourism practitioner, Prince Adetunji Fadina, on Tuesday advised the Federal and State Governments to shun religious and ethnic considerations, to further enhance the development of the sector in  the country.

Fadina, the Chairman of Ota Tourism Board in Ogun State, gave the advice in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Ota, Ogun State.

According to him, doing away with ethnic and religion considerations in tourism in Nigeria will prevent fraudulent practices in the sector.

Fadina also canvassed for the understanding of the fundamentals of tourism in Nigeria, to enable practitioners to benefit immensely from the sector.

“For Nigeria to benefit and use tourism as an alternative to generate revenues, we need to build a model like that of South Africa and Dubai in the United Arab Emirates (UAE),” he said.

He also called on government to introduce  policies and legislation that would holistically develop tourism in all parts of the country.

Fadina described Nigeria as the richest country in tourism potentialities with cultural heritage and historical sites that it could showcase to the rest of the world.

“What the nation needs to understand is to build the mind concept.

“We can build the mind concept effectively by organising conferences and exhibitions, regarded as the bedrock of tourism,” Fadina said. (NAN)
