Shaibu triumphs as Appeal Court affirms he’s still Edo dep gov

The Edo State House of Assembly, has lost its appeal against the reinstatement of Comrade Philip Shaibu as the deputy governor of Edo State.

The Court of Appeal, Abuja Division, on Tuesday upheld the earlier decision of the Federal High Court in Abuja, which voided Shaibu’s impeachment and ordered his immediate reinstatement to office.

The court warned that any other person parading himself as Deputy Governor would face legal consequences.

Shauibu was on April 8, impeached by the Edo State House of Assembly over alleged infractions, including perjury and leaking government secrets.

However, Justice James Omotosho of the Federal High Court while reinstating Shaibu nullified the impeachment procedure, saying it breached due process.

He also set aside the appointment of Omobayo Godwins as the new Deputy Governor in place of Shaibu and directed the Inspector General of Police to provide him with necessary security to enable him to resume office and perform his functions as Deputy Governor until his tenure elapses.
