Senatorial election: Dickson to make formal declaration

Thanks Gov. Diri, stakeholders

Immediate past governor of Bayelsa State, Rt. Hon. Henry Seriake Dickson has expressed profound gratitude to constituents, stakeholders as well as the entire PDP family in Bayelsa for their confidence in him and rooting for his candidacy in the forthcoming Bayelsa West senatorial by-election.
In a statement on his verified social media handles, Dickson singled out incumbent Governor, Senator Douye Diri, for his support, even as he said he is set to liaise with other stakeholders to agree on an appropriate date for his formal declaration.
Dickson, a one-time member House of Representatives, is seeking to clinch the seat vacated by Sen. Lawrence Ehwrudjakpor, who was elected Deputy Governor in last gubernatorial election in the state….

The former governor was quoted as saying “I want to express my sincere gratitude to the different political groups, leaders and other stakeholders who bought the PDP Bayelsa West Senatorial nomination of interest form for me.

“The form has already been signed by me and returned by representatives of these groups. Screening has commenced today and I have already interacted with the panel.

“I have also been in contact with the party leadership and I want to use this opportunity to thank His Excellency, Governor Douye Diri, for inaugurating the Campaign Council. I thank the DG of the Campaign Council, Chief Fyneman Wilson, the officers of the campaign council, the Deputy Governor and indeed all members of the campaign council.

“I will be in touch with them to let them know when I will be on ground to make a formal declaration. I thank all members of the PDP for according me that respect of not having a contest at the primaries but as they know, we have to keep working until everything is over.

“We know that the other party is not on ground and we do not have a challenge but knowing their history of violence, every step must be taken to sensitize our people.

“For peaceful elections, I call on INEC, the security agencies and most especially, President Buhari to ensure that Bayelsa does not see any bloodshed in this election. No election and not even this election is important enough to claim the life of any Bayelsan.

“Thanks, once again to elders, traditional leaders, youths, women and other political groups who for several months have been gathering support and endorsements for me. I hope to connect and appreciate them personally when I come home.

“I also thank those who bought the nomination of interest form for me and the leadership of the PDP. God shall see us through and victory shall be ours” the former governor said.
